Even though we are East coasters, and residents of New England during college/grad school, there are a few states that we never made it to together: New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont. So before heading out west for good, we wanted to check them out before the summer ended. We decided to take the more scenic water-view route through the quaint fisherman villages of Gloucester and Rockport, MA. Gloucester was made famous by the George Clooney thriller, A Perfect Storm AND the Lifetime Original: The Pregnancy Pact! And the only thing I knew about Rockport prior to going was that they are a sensible shoe line, although they are actually based in Newton, MA...what a tease!
We started off at the Fisherman’s Memorial in Gloucester. We didn’t really hang out there too much, but we were able to park the van right on the water to open ‘er up and get some fresh air.
Then off to Rockport, where we were able to snap some photos of Lucy in front of what we thought was just a cute fishing shack, but is actually the most often-painted building in America, called Motif #1. It is actually a replica of the original structure built in 1840 that was destroyed in a blizzard in the 1970's.
Then we headed to Bearskin Neck, an adorable, hoppin, little village filled with all things New England: art, tchotchkes, fish n chips, ocean views, buoys, lobster cages, and lots and lots of dog watching. We even got Lucy a new Ruffwear adventure harness at Good Dog Gallery before walking to the jetty at Ship’s Mast Light.
Nighttime was fast-approaching, so we put our Googles together and located our accommodations for the night at Sea Coast Camping & RV Resort in North Hampton, NH, just an hour drive North of Rockport. We typically use our Allstays Camp & RV App on our phones to locate all the campgrounds in the area and then we’ll do some cross referencing on each campground’s website as well as checking the Google reviews. We highly recommend the app. It is $10, but worth the price as we use it almost every day we are traveling. You can also locate State/National Parks, Overnight Parking Lots, Walmarts, Covered Bridges and Low Clearances, RV Services, Dump Stations, Camping Worlds, Truck Stops, and Propane Fill-ups.
